Marvin* enjoyed a successful career into his 50’s, until he was laid off during the pandemic. He struggled to find a new position as an applicant in a younger job pool. The ROC coached him in resume writing and LinkedIn networking, and co-sponsored a job-fair where Marvin* met the company that would eventually hire him. The ROC has successfully helped almost twenty local residents, who were unemployed, find new jobs, with their combined salaries totaling in excess of One Million Dollars!

Ralph* was eligible for unemployment benefits after losing his job, but with a faulty website and no answer at the unemployment office, he was unable to apply. With bills mounting, he reached out to The ROC. They helped him obtain his funds in just a few days.

With the November elections fast approaching, candidates wished to meet the community, and voters had questions for the candidates. Seeing the need, The ROC quickly hosted an event that connected 16 candidates and 130 community members just two weeks before Election Day.

It’s been a difficult time for most of us. The pandemic has caused a chain effect of lost jobs, struggling families, and an uphill effort to maintain life as we know it. We’ve seen that what affects one of us, affects all of us.

We at The ROC of New Jersey (The Raritan Valley Orthodox Jewish Community Association) having seen the fallout of COVID in other communities, wanted to reinforce that although we might attend different shuls and send our kids to different schools, we are still one community.

So, we stepped in.

To be the heart.

The hands.

The voice.

The ROC of the community.
